The starter drive assy came off the armature shaft. Pin 8N11365 is gone. What is the best way to repair this problem? |

River Rat,Get a new rool pin from NAPA ect,Putyour drive back on and then run a safety wire through the pin and twist the ends together. It won't happen again if you wire it.

Thank you! That is good advice. I hate to drive 20 miles for a 50 cent part so I hacked off the pull ring from a lynch pin and drove the pin through the holes in the drive assy and shaft. Sorry I didn't get your advice until after I put the starter back in. Anyway, it seems to be working and I can get back to my post hole digging. Thanks again. I appreciate your time.

I'm sure someone on this board will tell you how they do it. I would take the starter to my local auto electric shop and have put the new style bendix on it. If the old bendix fell into the bell housing you can leave it there. Won't hurt a thing.

I found the starter drive assy (Bendix) in back of the flywheel so I have it handy. I think it is still good. It seems the only thing that's missing is the retainer pin. I was thinking of milling a bolt down to size and pounding it into the shaft with a center punch. What do you think?

Ratsie........NO! NO!! NO!!! use a 16p nail work more better.......sheesh!!! Actually, the starter is held on the long starter shaft with a 1/8x1/2(?) roll-pin (50c, cheap) readily available at yer local NAPA parts store. ......respectfully, Dell
