i changed oil today in my 1955 800 ford tractor.iI found water in the oil. Not much but enough to make the oil a milky brown color. I have noticed that sometimes when the tractor starts i see white smoke end smell anti freeze. The tractor is always parked inside. Is this a head gasket or something more serios. Is there a test I can run with the tool that pressurizes the radiator. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thankyou.

Not so much experience with tractor motors with over head valves, but with cars, I can say this much...popped head gasket! I popped the one in my turbo charged Thunderbird a few months ago and ruined 6 quarts of full synthetic oil. It looks the same way that you describe, and I have popped my share of them. Drain the oil, change out the head gasket and then check your coolant, there might be oil in there as well.

Good luck.

Hi Robert --

I had the same problem on My 8N. Lots of white smoke -- Steam on start up. With mine it was a matter of getting the head milled and new gasket and torquing the head. You have different issues with the overhead valves, I would check for bubbles in the radiator and do a compression check to see anything obvious. Look at the spark plugs to see anything that looks steam cleaned. Dont run till you get it resolved -- antifreeze is murder on bearings-
