110 Electrical Question

My memory fails me lots.Im making a short extention cord and I could not remember if the netural wire(white) goes to the wide slot or the smaller slot.I know the green goes to the round looking prong. Thanks R.M. IN AL

Your connections should be & usually are marked as so . Brass colored is for the black wire ( hot ), silver colored (wide prong) is for the white neutral, & as you said the round ( usually green ) is for ground wire . Another thing to remember is that anytime a white wire is used for a feed ( like for a switch ) instead of neutral , always put a piece of red or black electrical tape on it so the guy who works on it next time will know its a hot wire not a neutral. The white goes to the wide slot (silver screw), black to the narrow slot (gold screw) and green or bare to the round slot(green screw)
 
I was making a 4' extention cord and on the male end someone had switched the gold and silver screws is what made me question my sanity.When I got to the female end it was ok so I got it fixed and worked good thanks all..R.M. IN AL
