Here's the deal, I've got 2 solar panels that came off my pals(now deceased) boat. I goofed and didn't get the regulator. The boat has disappeared into the family estate (& they are bickering - so staying away), #1 is 43 watts, 3.68 amps & 12.8 Volts - #2 is 50 watts, 2.95 amps and a 'rated' 17 volts. They are of different mfgs. They were running off a common regulator. The question is; Can I use an automotive (12v) regulator and a 12v battery? The idea is to (well never mind, it's MY idea). Can this be done ?? Thanks fellas, HPH, Bob

Hey Dunkie.....

1. Happy hour Windsor

2. Solar Panels.......I know someth'N 'bout em.

WATTAGE.....kw's

Once you know the juice, google from there.

If'N they ()solar panels....are of min. wattage
KW no good for anything except battery charg'N

Why not put them inside a cellar window and keep the charge up on the 12 volt. sump pump battery?

Or, better yet......glue 1 of 'em on the hood of his N and keep the battery up. We do this all the time on our Cessna 140!

orry, Bob, you can't do what you want with an automotive regulator. Automotive regulators regulate by controlling the field of the generator or alternator. With a solar panel, you have no field to control.

Northern Tool has one.

Go to northerntool dot com

Search for solar charge controller.
About $30 for a 7 amp controller.

Sorry can't post the link.

It is rated at 7 amps which is very close to the total of your panels. They have bigger ones too.
