12 volt conversion with electronic ignition added

I converted early 8N ft mount from 6 to 12 and had some problems with that since the mechanic (myself)lost something in the interpretation of the diagram. I gave up on it for about 6 months. When I finally got time and nerves to tackle again, thought I might as well go to electronic ignition. I now had three wiring diagrams (OEM original, 12 conversion, electronic ign) which seemed to have conflicts. I finally figured it out and tractor is running fine, but showing negative charge while running at the ammeter. Is there a diagram for those of us who convert to both 12 volt and electronic ignition?

You need to check the voltage at the battery before and after you start it. The pre-start voltage will be as low as 12.5 Volts, climbing to 13.5 to 14.5 Volts if the charging system (alternator?) is working.

If the voltage DOES come up, (indicating the charging system IS working) you simply need to swap the leads between the posts of the ammeter or flop the wire around so it passes through the loop the opposite way if you have an original "induction ammeter".

Doug:
May be that your ammeter leads need to be switched, or if the induction type, run the wire through the other way. That will show positive charge, and if the battery stays up, you're good to go.

Thanks Bob & Bill, that did it. Battery charger indicates I was getting charge from the alternator and works fine since I made the switch.
