12 volt alternator that looks like generator

a fellow n lover, who has since died, told me about a 12 volt alternator that was one wire and looked like a delco generator, has anybody had any experience with these. i have looked at several car and truck sites but haven't seen anything yet? any help would be great. thanks Digger

Degger.......I HATE 1-WIRE alternator conversions. Why? 'cuz they don't charge until yer engine is turning about 1800rpms (thats almost full throttle) Do you willingly want to goose yer COLD engine to full throttle to kick-start a 1-wire alternator??? When the Delco 3-wire will start charging at 600rpms. NOT ME.

1-wire alternator conversions are quite popular with high-rpm engine applications like hot-rods and marine engine applications.

Don't ferrgitt, you can use round-barrel 12-volt "stealth" gennys that look just like yer 6-volt genny.

My advice, STAY AWAY from 1-wire 12-volt alternator conversions........Dell, a 12-volt advocate for the right reasons who knows 8-ways to convert to 12-volts and they all work the first time

i wouldn't mind a 12 volt generator how about some advice on what type, i have always had luck w/ delco... what type generator and voltage regulator and maybe a wiring diagram. Thanks so much... Digger

Yeh,but for $895 that (includes cutout conversion).just think only $895.00 for the gener nator and a free cutout conversion.

Digger.......there's a good reason to use the Delco 10SI alternator 'stedda' gennys; cheap and efficient.

Iff'n you insist on a "stealth" 12-volt conversion, think 1960 Ford Falcon. And NO, I don't have a wiring diagram, it should be the same as a standard 6-volt 8N with matching Falcon squarecan voltage regulator. Go shopping.......Dell

Wonder if you couldn't use one of these Kabota generators in an N generator housing??? These little generators are just about indistructable. I have had lots of experiance with them on Kabota diesel powered lawn mowers.

See this auction on Ebay.

"245$ for a lucas one.. OMG.."

S.G., You, of all people, should know "you have to pay for quality smoke"! ;-)

I actually don't mind lucas gennies.. their regulators now.. that's another story.. top notch junk!

I might just point out that the 800 series deisels use a 12V generator. Looks just like the six volt one, if looks are what you are after.
