Hi all,

The archives tell me that AL437s are the way to go. I've gotten them in the past at my local Tractor Supply, but they no longer carry them. I've called a bunch of local parts places with the same result. My "local" New Holland dealer says they have them, but they're an hour away. Seems silly to drive 2 hours round trip for a set of plugs. Anyone have any suggestions as to where I might find a set for my 8N?

Thanks,
Craig

I bought mine at the local Kragen autoparts chain. $1.49 each.

That is just one of the prices ye have to pay when ye move out of the civilized world. Get 'em by mail order from here or boutany tractor catalog.

Craig..... ..while AutoLite 437's are the sparkie of choice because of the exposed tip that burns clean, which is needed to reduce fouling from no-lead gasoline, there are others HOT plugs that can be cross-referenced to match the 437's heatrange. Nippodenso W14LU, NGK B4L, Bosche W125T1, Delco C45L, Champion H12. The "key-word" is threaded length (reach) = 7/16, do NOT use sparkies that are 1/2" reach..... ..Dell

AL437"s and Champion H-12"s are both hotter than the OEM Champion H-10"s. I have used both & can not see a bit of difference.

Any "decent" auto parts store should either carry them, or obtain them within a few days at no extra charge to you. I found them at NAPA. Usually though, I just order a set whenever I order other stuff from my parts supplier over the internet - that way there are no extra shipping charges or tax. I keep a spare set of four around at all times.

HTH,
Dan

Thanks guys. You'd think any decent parts store could help, but... The guy at NAPA assured me that no such plug existed.

I also like to keep a spare set handy, but apparently the plug gnomes have visited my garage. Or, more likely, I used them a year or two ago and never got around to replacing them. Funny how that works.

Of course, I sorta need them today since the weatherman says I might get to go out and play with the plow in the morning. The plugs that are in now are starting to show signs of being fouled - historically, when it starts to run a bit off, I toss new plugs in and it's good again.

I'm pretty certain that Tractor Supply still carries the Champions, and it's on the way home, so that's what I'll do.

Thanks again,
Craig

No Such plug as AL437 in reply to Craig in MD, 02-01-2007 11:33:28
The guy at NAPA is right, THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS "AL 437". It's ""Autolite 437"" No difference to us, big difference to a brainless computer. Advance, Autozone, O'Riley's, NAPA, all have them.

A good temporary substitute would be the Champion H-12s. I know you can get these at TSC.

Good luck,
Dan
