I emailed K&N to get there opinion on the oil bath vs K&N in very high dust conditions.
All I got back from the enginerring group was blaa blaa blaa K&N is better. I switched my oil to straight 30W oil yesterday and it did not pull a bunch of oil into the motor like the 10-30 did. I will stick with the oil bath on my low RPM tractor. I will say that the K&N has worked well for me on dirt bikes, go carts, PU trucks, and a jeep that was run in a lot of dust. I never saw a spec of dust get past them. After cleaning and oiling the stock air box last night I can't see that any improvment in air flow or filtering would be relized with a K&N but K&N filters do work great. I've owned 8 over the years and will probable own more just not on my 8N.

Think about it,,,how would any cleaner pass threw more air ? The hole or preforations would have to be bigger given the same amount of vacuum. I once heard if you put a piece of bedsheet under the KN before you clamp it down and run it for awile, you will be scared of the amount of dirt that passes through, tho I have never done it myself.

Many years ago, I pulled oil over as well, fouled plugs. May have been other issues why plugs fouled, don't know don't care now. I am not always proud of it, but here is my K&N on my 8N. Philip.

I'm with you on the K&N filters being exceptionally good. That's what I run on my Harley. I do however think you're smart for keeping the original oilbath setup on your tractor. They've been well proven to do the job for many years and many have been neglected but continue to perform so why mess with success.

Stumpalump,
I've been using the K&N filter on one of my tractors carb for years. Push on style as used on a valve cover breather tube. Works great.
I have two, one on, one ready for exchange when dirty. Easy to clean, easy to fit, held in place with worm clamp. Makes a shot of starting fluid real easy on a cold frosty morning.
Good luck, jackie
