This is a weird one. I bought a 14 Volt Hitachi Cordless Drill which came with a standard 14 volt charger. When the battery is charged the charge light goes off. My question is this. Can I just leave the battery in until I'm ready to use it which could be a long time between uses. In other words will it maintain the battery by coming on and off as needed. The instructions don't say and I'm probably one of two people in the world who have never used a cordless drill. Thanks |

| | Hey HVW, Had a 12v Craftsman with 2 batt packs for over 5 years. One pack stayed in the charger continually. About once every three months I rubber banded a 12v auto bulb to each pack to completly drain the batts, then recharged. Only when the batt pack quit taking charge did I move up to a 18v which one batt pack stays in the charger 24/7. Don't forget to allow the batt pack to cool some before using straight from the charger. Safety & blue skies, DJ |

| My experiences with cordless drills are that some specifically say to not overcharge. Others don't say. My "Skill" brand stays on the charger 24/7 as well as my "Black and Decker Firestorm"..My chinese made "Weekneed" says specifically to not charge longer than 4 hours and of course I only charge it when it runs down, which is about 2 minutes after I really need it....JMHO..Ron |
