My son just bought a Ford 8N, and he has a 72" shredder that he was pulling with a JD 6020. Will the little Ford pull this shredder, and is there a way to pull it without using the 3 point?
Thanks for the help.

The King Kutter sold at Tractor Supply and other places does a good job and are reasonable priced.
I have a 5 footer on an 8N. I did replace the cheap chains on this one.

i agree.. you will have to take it easy with a 6' rotary mower.

As for pulling it.. some mowers can be setup as pull type or 3pt. A KK for instance can be assembled as either.. using the same parts in different configurations.. the instructions for both ar in the manual.. perhaps yours can be done the same way.. or like the other poster said.. just hooked up to the lift arms.. etc.

Thanks for the information.
Any information on where to find a shredder with PTO hookup that would hook to the 3 point on the 8N?
Thanks again for everyone"s help.

If your 8n has the oem pto, it is 1 1/8 and 6 splines. All modern pto stuff is 1 3/8 6 splines.

You have a few options for making these fit together.

Best option is to get a new 1 3/8 pto shaft for about 99$ for your 8n. It's a 15 minute job, baring any damaged parts encountered, to swap shafts. Perhaps 20 minutes if you change the oil while you are at it.. otherwise you can park nose down in a ditch and not change the oil.. your call. You would then want a 1 3/8 to 1 3/8 over running coupler ( ORC ).. this keeps the spinning inertia of the mower from transmitting back thru your tranny run pto, and pushing the tractor forward when the clutch is pushed.

Next best option is to simple get a 1 1/8 to 1 3/8 ORC and couple together that way.

Next best is to get a pto stub extender. It slips over the OEM 1 1/8 pto and sizes it to a 1 3/8 shaft, then you can use the normal ORC, and later when you swap your shaft out for a new one.. you can still use the same ORC.

Last option is not recomended. There is a small stamped sheetmetal 'bushing' that sizes the diameter of the 1 1/8 shaft up to 1 3/8.. unfortunately, with the power requirements of a shredder.. it strips out pretty easilly... I'd not use it... For any application where the stamped bushing could be used, the slightly more expensive stub adapter would be a better choice.. etc.

Also.. as we have said.. you may want to consider just getting a 5' shredder.

A decent 8N will handle a 5 foot cutter or a 6 foot finish mower in most conditions but a 6 foot cutter is both too large and too heavy for your son's 8N. Stay with a 60".

72" is a little large and it won"t perform well in higher and thick, healthy grass.
I don"t ever lift my mower off the ground but I do pull it from the lift arms. I can set the mowing height with the lift arms. Top link is superfolous to, in the way of, and a limit on the way I mow.
If the mower has enough wheels a guy can pull somewhere else.
