Okay...I finally got the front end of the 8N jacked up so i can change the tire. I unbolted the six lug nuts...shouldn"t the wheel then come right off? I have banged with a mallet and it will not budge. Then I decided to remove the dust cap and adjusting nut. The nut is loose, but won"t come off the spindle. Am I missing something?

Threads must be stripped. Must be why they used a set screw on the nut.

You should feel better after reading this experience I had with a chevy pickup rear rim. Truck needs a muffler , so I drive up a small incline to get better access. Put parking brake on. Muffler installation goes smooth as silk. Undo parking brake and light is on in dash. I'm thinking the brakes got stuck.Try to remove right rim, won't budge. Beat with sledge and damage hub. Create ridge and now it won't move. Knock lugs through drum and drive truck. it breaks loose after six hours of agony. Now axle seal is leaking. Break rusted bleeder screw trying to remove axle. Must take differential cover off to remove axle. differential plug is rusted solid. Won't come out. try chisel and hammer and impact. won't come out.Drill and tap new hole to refill diferential. Put back together. Bleed brakes. No neutral. Take all back apart and redo spider gears and put all back together. turned into a three day nightmare. You are still ahead of the game!

If it screwed off,it ought to screw back on.You said the threads felt alright.Maybe you want to clean it good and look them over real good.Still if it screwed off,it should go back on.Sometimes stuff like that is a little hard to start,maybe walk away for a few minutes and come back and it might go right on.If you have a torch,even a propane torch,you can put a little heat on your rim,or some penetrating oil,and then hit it with a hammer on the tire and see if it comes off.

It soulds like you can't get the rim of fthe hub, and have now pulle dthe hub grease cap and are attempting to remove the castelated nut holding the bearings and hub to the spindle ( why? )

The castelated nut won't come off probably because you didn't mention removing a cotter pin...

However.. removing the hub from the spindle isn't what you are after is it? Aren't you tring to get the rim of fthe hub?

get a hammer and bang on the rim / tire .. it will slip off..

You probably pulled the threads in the nut. If the spindle is OK put some pressure against a socket as you thread the nut back on. The spindle should be a harder material than the nut. You should be able to gently force the nut back on without damaging the spindle threads. Us some oil or some grease to lube the threads good. Go slow, thread it on some and then back it off, repeat this process until you get it back where it was.

Yeah, the tire should come off with the lug nuts removed. Use a sledge hammer and whale the bejeebers out of it - don't hit the rim.
Sounds like you'll need to chase the threads on the spindle threads or get a replacement nut, or both.

Eeee, thats a weird one. Unless they got really hot by turning them I don't know about that. You might try cleaning them up real good with a small brush or may have to chase the threads with a tap & die.

Very common problem. Do as Sean has said if it holds air long enough to do so. If now then whack it hard front and back on the back side of it and it should pop loose sooner or later BTDT many times on many machines

Put the the dust cap and adjusting nut back on. Drive tractor around abit with loose lug nuts. Rim must be rusted on.

You need to put the spindle back on & knock the crap outta the wheel, front & back. It's probably just rusted to the hub. Some of 'em can be tough but it'll break loose.

You have a stripped spindle.Rim centers oftem rust tight to hubs.There are collet type spindle nuts that may work if you can get the old nut off.
