Ok, front mount started right up after installing 12 volt alternater,12 volt coil, resister, 12 volt electronic ignition. But....when I rev the engine the ameter shows discharge instead of charge. It is wired according to instructions. I know I've read this somewhere on this board but can't find it. Anyone out there who can offer some help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Mine does that too.
I just assumed I had wires backwards on ammeter and never bothered as it runs perfect and that was all that mattered. But I will watch for the answer and then change mine too.
Good post!

If your ammeter has two posts on it, swap wires from rt post to left post and visa versa. If you have the original loop type/induction meter, the wire needs to be threaded thru the loop in the opposite direction (L to R or R to L).

Wow! That sounds too easy. I'll try it as soon as it stops raining. I can't believe how easy she starts on 12 V!!

with an analog meter,, if you`re getting 14 volts or more while running, and 12 when not running, then it is charging,,,,,,,,, just swap the wires on your ammeter

I converted our 8N this spring, followed the instructions and had the same problem. It was charging, so I swapped the wires on the ammeter - problem solved. I think they need to correct the instructions.

It's amazing....how many of these things have they sold? How many phone calls have they gotten? They still send the same half written instructions!!!
