The snap ring (9n7070) on the reverse gear(8n7141) came out of the grove. I know I need a new snap ring. The gear does show some wear were the snap ring sits. Has anyone had any luck fileing the splins down some to square them up. Are did you just replace the snap ring and leave the grove along, or replace the gear. I was also thinking about haveing the grove machined a little deeper.
BTW it also took out 1St gear and the mainshaft. Thanks for any advice

I would like to know what made it come out of the grove. You may have the same thing again if not corrected. You can file up if not broken or worn just to get burrs off. Be careful to keep from creating a bevel on gears as this will make slip out of gear. I would't cut grove deeper it will make snap ring run loose in grove. This had to have a side load on the gear to pop it out. It is possible it wasn't all the way in to start with. Do some detective work on this wouldn't want to go through this twice.

I did find SETVICE BULLENTIN about this
Transmission jumping out of reverse and/ locking in reverse and another gear at the same time. We have found in these instances that the snap ring groove in the 8n-7141, gear and bushing assembly, is not sharp and square or the snapring itself, #9n7070 may may have the edges on the inside diaameter chamfered rather than square. You are right I dont wont to do this job twice
I was hopeing some of the top guns had seen this and could advize! This did applie to ser# 245636 and up
