MM BG oil pressure. (follow up)

This is a follow up to the post about this I posted nearly a year and a half ago.

I finally got around to checking things with the oil pressure on the MM BG I rebuilt winter a year ago.

I took the new (well, it was installed new when I rebuilt the engine winter a year ago) 0-80 psi gauge off the tractor and made an
adapter to hook it to my Mityvac tester. 10 psi on the Mityvac gauge never budged the needle on the new gauge. 20 psi on the Mityvac
gauge got the 'new' gauge to about 11 or 12 psi. So it was the 'new' Chinese gauge that was the problem.

I installed the Stuart Warner gauge that I had purchased back then and then never got around to installing it. I also took the shim back
out of the oil pressure relief valve. The Stuart Warner gauge cost more than twice what the other gauge cost.

After starting and a bit of adjusting on the oil pressure relief valve It now carries 20 psi at idle and 30 psi reved up when hot, which
I think should be sufficient. The I@T manual says it should 15 psi at 1,000 rpm. so I think the pressure numbers I am getting with my
rebuilt engine will be O.K.

I also changed out the break-in oil and found a tiny bit of water in the oil filter canister. So it was well worth doing that too.

After that, I drove the tractor around for about an hour hauling limbs I had trimmed off and kept an eye on the gauge. No problems, so I
am a happy camper tonight.

If that was an 80# gauge, they don't necessarily register real accurate in that low of range. Don't throw it out it will probably be fine for a different application. It may be stuck a little from being on the shelf. Will take more pressure for the first time.
