Couple of RTU questions

What do you guys run for gear oil in the older type Minneapolis Molines? I have a 1945 RTU. Not sure if I should go with that GL-1 mineral or GL-5. Also, I cant seem to find the dust seal for the shifter shaft for the PTO. (Not the PTO seal )Is that available anymore? I guess I could make one out of felt in a pinch. I wouldnt think much oil would come out of that location.

The current SKF Seal number for the pto shifter shaft is 5085 and I checked a few places and one has it for 3.42 with a 1 day delay as it's at a out laying warehouse . I am also wondering about the gear oil for my moline

jfh, Thanks for the info on the shifter shaft seal. Kind of curious where did you find that information? Ive heard that the new style gl-5 80/90 was hard on brass parts. I recently put some gl-1 in an old John Deere B. For the amount of work, these old tractors do nowadays Im sure the old mineral oil would be just fine. It just cost more than the newer style 80/90.

Your welcome anytime and I have a skf ag catalog and after looking it up I then went to there website to make sure the number hadn't changed . It should be able to be crossed over if local suppliers don't have the skf handy. I agree on the gear oil and my Massey Ferguson 97 fwa which is similar to the G706 has a few leaks and I am sure it needs some or even changed. If you need any other seal or bearing numbers just let me know
