On the UB Special gasoline powered tractor I brought home last weekend, I went to change the oil filter which is accessed by opening a cover plate on the left rear side of the oil pan. The NAPA books showed #1111 = Wix 551111 = MM KE 5905. This filter has a long ~1.25" tube extension at each end, making the filter too long for this application.
The filter I took out was Wix 551114 = NAPA 1114 which is discontinued, not available anymore. This filter is larger in diameter (4 1/2") and longer than the #1111, but with very short end tubes. This #1114 filter is definitely a bigger filter than the #1111.
I do not think the previous owner ever changed the oil filter as he thought this engine had no oil filter. He had owned this tractor since 1978! His owner/operator manual showed the external filter of the older U series, and he had bought the hardward to put it on the engine, but it would interfer with the location of the steering shaft, so it never got installed.
What are you UB Special owners using for your oil filter?
Thanks.....
