1206SWMO 10-10-2012 05:49:30 184.21.202.2 Report to Moderator	Yesterday my collector friends Robert (left) and Lyle (right) came over to get the items that I hauled home for them from the Gene Miller sale..We got to talking and decided to see if my $700 GVI diesel would run..I had no idea if the engine was even free....All they said at the sale was that the engine had been overhauled.. We checked it over and decided to pull it a few feet..It started right up and we let it run 5 seconds..That was a wonderful sound..The fuel is old and stale..I drained nearly 20 gallons out of it..I want to change the engine oil and put new oil and fuel filters on it...It probably hasnt ran in 15-20 years.. If you will notice the left side of the engine..It has an electric fuel pump by the left oil filter...Also the hydraulic oil tank is home built.. The bottom 3 pictures taken from the sale bill show the (3) GVI LP tractors that went for scrap for $275 to $600 each..It makes me sick to look at the nicest one knowing it will be scrapped..One of them is the 18th one built.. Put a reserve high enough on everything to deter scrappers from buying them in the first place. It doesn't take much, but as long as the reserve is high enough that scrappers can't make money, they won't buy them. It's bad enough when perfectly running tractors are parted out, but at least those parts will still be around. Scrappers like this are far worse. [Reply]  [No Email]

I'm glad you lucked out with a nice runner! Pretty sad that the scrappers are getting so many these days... I thought scrap price was down lately, but I've sure seen a lot of loads of metal being hauled lately... One semi went by Dad's place the other day (back road that truckers occasionally use to keep off the highway and stay hidden) with several old implements piled on top of each other and a nice looking 4020 JD missing one rear wheel on the back and sheet iron piled on top of it... This year I've been to 5 sales with lots of old tractors..The scrappers have been getting way too many of them..Theres also been more sales with MM tractors than I can ever remember..I think heres the reasons collectors arent getting them.. 1-Theres lots fewer collectors in my area than there used to be.. 2-With high fuel prices it costs so much to haul them any distance..It cost me $120 just in fuel for a 260 mile round trip on the GVI.. 3-Tires cost so much.. 4-It costs a fortune to rebuild an engine if they dont run..
