My question is if pulling should i use the T/A or direct drive. I would hate to damage the T/A. Also should i add a little fluid to the rear tires. Thanks in advance [Reply]   [No Email]

Just make sure you let the tractor run for a while before pulling and leave the torque lever ahead to let it warm up. If you don't, when you pull it back it is like pulling a hand clutch back. Like advance timing, adjust valves, carb, tire pressure ETC.... My engine is stock standard bore. The only thing i do know is the heads are the higher compression heads. When i looked up the head# they were 8:1.1 . I would like to do any thing i can do get a couple extra HP. Thanks [Reply]  [No Email]

It's funny how many guys have "HEARD" what parts will swap and how to do it. I've "HEARD" those kind of things too. I don't know much about gassers, but I would advance the timing just a hair and if it knocks, I'd switch to premium gas, just for the pull. As for the tires, I've heard what most guys do is air the rear tires up so the psi is the same as the first number in the size. i.e. a 15.5/38 tire, run 15 psi (I personally don't do it that way) Don't put fluid in them, you want to get in the lightest weight class you can. I've HEARD of guys jimmy-ing the governor so you get more rpm, do that too. Most importantly....go and have fun!! Way too many people take tractor pulling waaaay to serious. Walk around, look at the other tractors, talk to lots of people, take a bunch of pictures and learn what you can. If you can, get there plenty early,and if he has time, talk to the sled operator before the pull. Tell him you're new and if he has any advice. A GOOD sled man will give you pointers on what to watch for and maybe who to talk to specifically. [Reply]  [No Email]

And this would be my first pull/show. I talked to the man in charge and he said just bring your tractor and as long as it has a hitch to hook the chain to you can pull. I don't know what the rules are. I was thinking Second gear and then when it starts to power out engage the T/A. With the 38" rear tires it is high geared so maybe 1st gear direct drive.
