I like the UB, You can see better, beter brakes, and I just think they look nicer. It sounds like you have a propain g for parts. Why not just put the whole engine in? The idea behind pressed steel wheels is to loose weight. If your wanting to make it lighter thats where i would start, As far as the cam goes I have mixed feelings. I think cam grinders are like used car salesmen. The will sell you whatever it is they have handy. If you can find a good grinder, one that understands your not working on a small block chevy and you dont turn 8500 he may be able to do you some good, but it sounds to me like you are going to have a basic 403 with compression. I put togeter a 4 3/4 by 7 engine for a ub last winter with a stock cam and a set of murphy rocker arms and we feal that its as good as any. Im sure the critics, those who have never built an engine will disagree, but thats where im at. As far as the fit on the pistons, loose is fast.With oem pistons I like to run a little looser than the high end of spec. |
