I have a friend who is considering selling his G950. Neither of us has any idea what its worth. Was wondering how to go about determining what might be a reasonable asking price.Diesel engine is getting tired but otherwise runs decent, sheet metal is straight, paint is fair. He was told the 950 engine was a different block from the 900 and 1000, much harder to find thus more valuable. Any comments would be appreciated. |

The 50 series tractors used a different crankcase than the 900/1000 series. The 50 series block has a larger clearance area for the hydraulic pump. You can't use a G1000 crankcase in a 50 series and still use the factory hydraulic pump.

Ideally it would be close to Texas and for sale around $1000. Realistically the value might be $3500-$6000. It does have different blocks than a G1000. The G900, G950, and g955 have a 451 cid diesel engine while the G1000 has a 504 engine. Its believed that MM did this to save strain on the rear end and transmission. Moline was hoping that farmers would not work a "smaller tractor quite as hard.

Actually the G950 has bigger axles and stronger rear end than the G1000. The Vista might be a little stronger or perhaps the same. I been told the G950 uses the same cyl heads as the 670, which are not readily available in usable condition. I would guess at least $4000 if in good condition, and not needing more repairs beyond an engine rebuild.

The rear end of later model G1000 and Vista are much heavier than the G950. We have a 69 Vista. My 66 G1000 is about the same as the later G900 and G950's which we also have. Our G1050 and the G1000 Vista is about the same . Ratio's are different because Ring and pinions are different in all 50 series tractors with different bull pinion / bull gear ratios.

I knew the 1050 was stronger and wasn't quite sure if the the Vista had the 950 or 1050 rear, but was sure both were stronger than at least the early 1000. Didn't know there was a later/ updated version of the 1000 before the Vista. Something to be stored in the memory banks. Appreciate the information.
