Corn head for 300 combine

Would like to buy a corn head for our 300 gas combine. What would be the numbers on it and would it be only two row or do they come in three row? We are in Ontario - will we have any chance of finding one?

The 300 combine handles a 2 row or a 3 row narrow. You need to indicate if it is a quick
tach or not. Quick tach started in '68.

You should be able to find plenty. At auctions they are going for scrap prices. Check the wrecking yards first, there are a bunch of tractor and combine recyclers that advertise in the Ontario Farmer.

Good Luck,
JP.

Although it will fit, I don't think you really want a 3 row CH unless you want to put a LOT of weights on the back. Had a 2 row QA on mine years ago and it was LIGHT on the back.

Sorry - yes, it is quick attach. We found one about 8 hours away but when hubby started combine today, seems clutch is not working. Do we repair clutch or just look for another cheap combine... Anyone ever repaired/replaced clutch on one of these? Is it doable or a really big job? We both work off the farm so not a lot of fixing time available, but not a lot of extra cash for big repair jobs either...

If most other things on the combine are in known decent shape I would keep it running.

If it is the traction (belt) variable speed drive (like on the 410's and 550's) it is a fairly easy fix. Usually the clutch just needs another friction disk. Takes a little bit of tinkering to get the gear shift linkage just right after working on the clutch or anything else that requires removing the drive belts.

Be sure to run it in the lowest gear possible when you are in the field. Saves a lot of wear and tear on the belt and clutch.

Clutches and belts can be had for less that half dealer price at the on line parts stores.

Good Day,
JP.

P.S.: Be sure to loosen the set screws on the gear shift linkage before loosening off the transmission to remove the belt. JP.

jogl - are you for hire LOL? Just kidding...

Thanks for the tips - the combine is in good shape otherwise (we actually bought it from the original owner) and we'd like to keep it around if we can.
