Dripping relief valve on MF -165 Transmisson

I have a MF-165 and the pressure relief valve, actually it looks like on simple cotter pin. located on the bottom of the transmission housing, drips when the tractor is in operation. I've tried to very gently clean around it, thinking maybe some junk was not letting it drop into its correct position. No luck. Next I thought the pin itself was defective but after looking at my manual it seems too simple to be breakable . Now I'm thinking that the universal oil is not the correct viscosity for this tractor. I have TSC Universal Oil in it now. I'm thinking about draining the transmission and using only Permatran but I hate to go through all until I'm sure of the solution. Any help/ suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and expertise.

That's a weep hole so your clutch doesn't get wet. It is just a cotter pin. Don't plug it off. You may need a trans. seal or rear engine seal. That requires splitting the tractor. Does the oil you bought say it meets MF perma-tran or 1129 specs.? Perma-tran works the best but I don't know if a different brand would cause a leak or not. What color is the oil that is dripping? If it's black, it's most likely engine oil. If the leak is very minor, you might not have to worry about it too much. Someone more knowledgeable should be along shortly to help you out more. Dave

Does your tractor have Multi-power? The sealing rings can wear and it will leak when in Multi-power high. I believe any leak from this hole will require a split to repair. However if only leaking in Multi-power high you can leave it in Multi-power low and it will not leak as bad.
