Differential problem

I put this on another part of this site. I got a 63 massey 35. The differential is locked in posi-tract position. It doesn't have a peddle for the differential lock. I was plowing and the right tire started spinning and I hit the right break and the left tire started to pull with the right. It won't release back into normal operating position. I kept using it and now it seems the left tire is pulling a d the right isn't. Any help will be appreciated.

As I said above, I'd pull the left axle and diff assembly PRONTO and see what's with the diff case assembly. Sounds like something is coming apart inside, and best find
out soon before more damage is done. Used to see some extreme damage at the MF dealer I worked for years ago, and it ain't pretty.

Ok thank you. I will be taking it apart. Is there anything I need to be looking for that I might miss because I have never taking one apart before?

Go back and read everything that was mentioned in your ORIGINAL POST Massey Ferguson 35 that would give you a sense
of concern....

I had virtually the same thing happen on the exact same tractor some 30 years ago. Best as I can remember, the differential lock gear had shelled some teeth, and they were floating around inside.
The dealer said it was a good thing I took it to them when I did, a the loose pieces could have done some damage.

.

We had an auction-bought MF35 industrial loader+backhoe tractor when I was a kid. Motor burned oil to keep the mosquitos back and the rear pinion and differential axle ring gears had pealed most of their teeth off.

The gears were pretty expensive, and the engine rebuild took a while, but the tractor was used for a lot of jobs for the next thirty-five years.

The advice to take it apart and see what is going on is solid.
If you do have to replace gears in there, make sure to evaluate how the gears were allowed to flex like loose shims or bearing supports.

I pulled the differential apart and it is trashed. I was wondering if an WO-30 differential assembly will work on my 63 massey fergurson 35 or if there might be a different year or model like a 65 or 50 would work since the housing was used on other size tractors. I looked up the stamped part number on the side of housing and it showed these other models.
