Davis 101A Loader on MF35 Turf

Yellow MF35

New User
Hey all,
Ive found what looks to be a good deal on a Davis (Mid-Western Industries) Model 101A loader that someone is taking off of a TO35.

Before I commit to this, Im trying to work out what I will need to change on my 1962 MF35 Turf Special.
Heres what I have so far:
- replace the stock (no bolt holes) crank pulley with a 4 bolt hole version.
- my machine has what looks to be the industrial fenders that go all the way down to the foot rest. I may need to modify these to fit the rear loader mounts
- I have vertical exhaust, I may need to modify this, or change to horizontal

My intent is to keep the loader frame and pump mounted on the tractor, add some quick connects to the hydraulic lines from the controls, and take the moving parts of the loader on and off as needed.

Thoughts? Did I miss anything major to get my machine ready for a loader like this?

Thanks!

My 1963 MF 35 X (differential Lock)had a Loader mounted on it...

Is your Tractor Manual steering or Power Steering...?

What type of work do you intend on subjecting your 35 to...?

Bob..

The Turf Specials have power steering, but its a cylinder built into the steering box, not a remote cylinder like on the industrials and later tractors.

I do want to use it to develop the site for my large detached garage, but the main uses would be picking things up, and moving snow. Again, just making the tractor I have more handy. Finance committee has vetoed a dedicated loader tractor.

What front axle is on your Turf? If I remember correctly it's the agricultural style or swept back style. If so, I'd be VERY careful putting a loader on that machine. The axle isn't meant to take that kind of weight, especially with a loaded bucket. Also, the 101 loader is very heavy.

If you plan to follow through with this, I'd grab the industrial axle off a 35 utility, 202, 203, 204, 205, or even a 2135 would probably fit. The axles are MUCH stronger and meant to take that kind of weight.

Thanks shaeff!

Looking around, Ive found specs for the 101 loader, but no mention of the weight of the unit. How heavy is it? Is the 101A any different?

Regarding the axle, I agree a straight axle would be preferred. My turf has the adjustable swept axle. The loader is coming off of a TO30 with the adjustable swept axle.

I would estimate the total loader weight with a 50" bucket would be bucket 400, support arms 200 each, lift arm 400, so in the 1000pds range for sure.

[b:d017b3e957]For safety [/b:d017b3e957]to counter this added weight at the front [b:d017b3e957] you must load the back tires [/b:d017b3e957]and even have a heavy rear implement.

I have the 102 loader on a to35 with swept axles and no issues so far, just really hard to steer without PS. When I want to lift heavier things I remove the bucket. It will lift 500-750pds no problem but I would go much more than that.

The straight axle on a 202 with Davis 102 loader will lift 2500pds.

One other thing you may not have account for is the length of the support arms that go the back axle, I think the 35turf maybe longer than a to35, and some fabrication would be required to mount this to your tractor especially at the front end.

Picture of the to35 with Davis 102, overall weight probably in the 6500-7500 range, notice the rock at the back that provides extra weight when needed and pieces of railroad track :) Sometime heavy teenagers or wife can also come in handy as counter weight.

Counterweight upgrade, quick hitch, added sides & support beam to normal 3pt blade, and 300 pounds of steel plates.
I would guestimate 800pds at the back plus loaded tires.

Steering is not so bad.

I use a chain to keep it up to save the 3pt pump and get more HP from engine when doing loader work.

Thanks scoobieguy!

I did not think about the possible differences in length between the TO30 and the MF35.

It may be easier to go with this 3 point loader!

My 35 Utility (industrial variant of the 35 that's a 202 in 35's clothes) has a MF/Davis 99 loader but the cylinders were upgraded to those of the 101 loader. I can't imagine lifting some of the loads I move with a swept axle.

It would be easy enough to source a suitable axle from a tractor scrap yard. I'd probably stay away from the 3pt loader, likely more trouble than it's worth and you'd need a bunch of front weight to keep the nose planted, which still loads up the front axle.
