Easy way to clean a fuel tank.

My MF 253 has no noticeable corrosion in the fuel tank that I can see. However, there must be a little trash in the tank near the outlet. Would any of you care to comment on how to remove that trash, other than going to all the trouble of removing the tank? Thanks heaps.

I have a 574 IH that had a lot of buildup in the tank (not rust) that was causing issues blocking the fuel inlet. It is a PITA to pull that tank, so I disconnected and blocked off all the fuel lines, drained the tank and filled it with 2 gallons of simple green and 2 gallons of very hot water and let it sit over night. I then made a long brush that I could use the scrub the parts of the tank I could reach through the fill hole. I removed the shutoff valves and drained and flushed and drained and flushed, then repeated the procedure again. After that, I took compressed air to the tank, then rinsed with denatured alcohol to chase out as much of the water as I could. Long story short, I got out at least a quart jar worth of buildup out of the tank.

So this method may not be any easier. But you don't necessarily have to pull the tank.

Good luck! Hopefully your's isn't as bad as mine was.

You can buy a cheap bore scope for a cell phone. It may be worth draining the tank and taking a peek inside before you start to see what you are up against. That also gives you the ability to see how clean you are getting it as you go.

That's an interesting idea. Might try it. However, I've discovered that my injector pump's metering valve must be stuck because it's not pumping. I'll
have to have that tended to before I can determine whether that was the reason that no fuel was getting to the injectors.
