MF TO35 3 point hitch issue

My three point hitch won t lower and raises without lever activation. It will raise while starting which makes it difficult to get running, and it seems to continue to build pressure to the point you can see oil weeping from the topcover at idle.
What I have done so far:
Removed top over and found the filter lodged in the PTO gear so I replaced it after flushing some nasty oil out with diesel. I got it nice and clean and filled with 10w30. Replaced covers and got the same thing, only at first I used the lever to raise the arms, but then they got stuck. After they bled off and I tried to start it again they began to raise while the tractor was turning over. Not responsive to any controls. I m thinking something is clogged with debris from that filter? Does the relief valve control this release? I was thinking try replacing it next? Any help is appreciated!

Hello Andy, the most likely cause of your
problem is a broken oscillator link under
the pump. The eccentric 'eye' (looks like
a magnifying glass) sets up a back and
forth rotary movement which prevents the
control valve sticking. There's nothing
wrong with the valve, it just happens and
this stops it. If you remove the RH side
cover or have already done so you will
see the two fingers coming down from
above. These should be in front of the
pump lever which comes up out of the oil.
When you raise the Position Control lever
you should see the pump lever push the
fingers forward. When you lower it, it
should push the pump lever rearwards. I
believe that you will find that the
fingers have no effect on the pump lever
and the command from the PC lever is
being taken up by the spring assembly in
the cover. Early 35s had an aluminium
oscillator link which whilst failure was
not a common problem it was replaced on
later 35s with a metal one. If this is
the problem the pump will need to be
removed to access it.

David, thanks so much for that info. That gives me a good starting point. Sounds like I ll be taking the pump out soon. Is the oscillator piece available for purchase as a replacement part?

went thru the oscillator THING. TOOK TOP cover and bits and pieces were on them floor of sump. luckily if found a used pump and cannalibalized (sp) it for parts.

David, it sounds like you can somewhat test this possible failure by checking the control fingers/lever movement?
I need to verify the fingers are oriented correctly to the lever. Right now, both fingers are to the left of the lever looking through the window. Is this correct?

Hi, even after 40-odd years on MFs I have
to think about this briefly as the 35 and
135 for example are different. On the 35
as you look through the LH cover hole the
fingers should be to the rear (left) side
of the pump lever so that when they move
forward they push against the pressure of
the control valve spring.

I removed the pump and found the follower in tact. Everything appears as it should except the snap ring above the small plate that holds the long spring in for the control valve broke. There was enough left that the spring was still locked in the tube.
Does anyone know anything else I could check?

When the tractor runs with the top cover off, a small amount of oil flows from the pump hole where the tube goes. Not much, but enough to raise the hydraulic arms slowly and not let them lower in my opinion. This doesn t seem correct to me. I think I m going to check the control valve next for wear or debris. I would like to avoid taking the whole pump apart if possible.
Any advice is appreciated!
