Delco 1100435 12V Generator

Hello to all again.
Have a problem with the generator on my 1966 202 Work Bull.
I've had this machine for about 5 years, been a great worker. At any rate, I've never noticed the amp meter showing any charge, not really a big deal as I keep a battery maintainer connected while not in use. Well I decided to try and figure out why it didn't appear to charge. First I did the "flash", no luck. checked the battery voltage while not running, then cranked it up, revved it to around 1500 rpm, no increase. Next I did the "motor test", generator doesn't turn.
Time for a rebuild? Took the generator off, began taking it apart, got the tach drive housing off the rear, then realized that the armature will not come out because of the small tach drive gear attached to the armature shaft. After some research, it appears that the small gear is threaded into the end of the armature. Anyone ever removed one? Is it right or left hand threads? I don't want to start trying to turn that little gear the wrong way and bugger it up, I would need it if I have to buy a replacement generator. Any ideas??

Thanks to all,
Roger

Thanks Bob. After reading your post, I went out to the shop and tried getting the gear off. Very gently using two small pair of channel lock pliers, it came off without a hitch.

Thanks again,
Roger
