Davis Loader Spools

If at all possible, I would like to rebuild / reseal the 2 spool control valve for the Davis 102 loader on my 202. For me, where I live it would be a whole lot easier and quicker to fix it. I have the parts manual for the loader but have not yet tried to search out parts based on those numbers. If anyone knows where to get the specific parts and part numbers I would be grateful. If at all possible I would like to have the parts before tearing into it. That way I can continue to use it. If the parts are common items that need to be matched, there is a city about an hour from me that has hydraulic shops and I could make that work.

Thanks for the help

Hey Red,

From what we've all gathered here, parts are no longer available for these spools. (I have the same ones on my MF/Davis loader) I have the parts manual for the loader if you'd like some pictures to help try to source parts, but I doubt you'll find any. I'll snap some pics tonight and post them up tomorrow morning from my work PC.

Most guys just grab a new set of spool valves, open center, at least 20gpm flow rate, and now's the time to get valves with a float detent if that's something you're interested in. Anyway, I'll post up some pics for ya tomorrow morning.

For the project you got going on here, it wouldn't hurt to just take it apart and clean it up. Going by the rest of your jobs, it could be just old crud. To me, the insides look like old fashioned plumbing packings and fittings. BUT! If you start removing bolts... it might spring apart like a jack in the box. So treat it like a land mine, and one hand on top, or a helper's hand just keeping some pressure on it. Just don't lose anything. Good luck.

Only fix is for it leaking externally. Each spool has a standard O-ring to seal it at each end. You will have to dig one out and measure the size.

A little tricky to get spool back in place without cutting new O-rings.

Short version is don't push spool in the long way so all the "lands" have to pass the O-rings.

Thank you Bob. The only issue I know I have is the external leaking. The lift is real sensitive to the downside. That would be really awesome to stop the leaks.

The bottom cover IS under spring tension, be careful. With mine, the spools were so worn out that even new o-rings didn't seal it up. I would get a geyser of hydraulic fluid when trying to tilt the bucket under load. Entertaining as long as you are not in the line of fire, but messy!

lol

I can hope o-rings will solve or at least help with the problem.

I have it apart. What imagine an o-ring to look like is not what I have. It is more like a seal. It appears to be about 3/16" tall and flat as #62 in the picture. Is this what I am after?

Thanks

I pulled it and it is not what is in the picture either or at least what I expected. I used the pick and wound up pulling out a seal spring. So I cleaned it up a lot more and added more light (degrading eyesight stinks) and saw a whole metal insert. Popped it out.. well destroyed it the one left behind I wire bushed all the layers of paint. part number 12524 c/r. So I am going hunting for it.

HMMMMM, I don't remember them being set up like that, but no biggy... the new SKF/CR number for those seals is 7440.

Just got off with Napa and they gave me the same number Bob and they are available!

Its a Chicago rawhide part. Its steel with a spring and leather internals.

Thanks

The kind of day I hate. After all is said and done, I will need to replace the unit. I had pulled the lift spool to seek parts (did not want to mix them up) found the seals drove 3 hrs r/t and while installing found the dump spool has a broken spring and I would guess a slight bend. At this point the problems are winning the battle.

I'm sorry to hear that. I tried a few times to upload the pics yesterday but the forum wasn't letting me for some reason. I'll try again just for anyone's future reference.

My control is different than what you uploaded. Is yours for a 102 loader? Mine matches the diagrams in the pictures attached. Yours makes more sense and with a filter on it.

Mine is for MF 99 and 102 loaders. The problem is that they changed layouts so many times that it's often difficult to nail down exactly whom has what valves.

Valves on my loader match the pic you posted too.

Hi everyone,

I purchased a Prince 2 spool with float and power beyond capability. The high pressure relief is set at 2000psi. The pump I am running puts out 2000psi.

Given there is more than 1 spec on the loader setup (ranging from 1500psi to 2100psi) it seems to me that the Prince setting at 2000psi should be OK. But with zero hands on experience I wanted to check first.

Thanks for the help!

Very nice. Factory setting for the pressure relief is 2150psi, so I'd set it as close to that as possible. 2150psi is for the MF99, 101, and 102 loaders.

Thanks Shaeff.

At the same time I am adding a Donaldson 35gpm return filter. Down the road, when I change the pump I am thinking it might be a good idea to add a suction filter before the pump or a high pressure filter before the Prince. If the price is right and flow restriction not to much, do both.

Take care,
Don

Hey Don, no problem! I'm looking to add a suction filter to mine, too. As of now, it doesn't even have a suction screen on it, maybe it's rattling around the bottom of the reservoir...
