Cost to have a MF 35 rebuilt ?

How much do's it cost to have a gas motor rebuilt.also can I install cam bearing's myself or do I have to take it to have it done.

It's a Continental engine, it doesn't have cam bearings. The camshaft rides in bores in the block. If you can get the engine out, and rebuild it yourself the best thing would be to buy a complete rebuild kit, and some misc parts that don't come in a kit. If it needs valve guides, valves, crankshaft turned, etc. Its probably around $1000 just for parts (but it all depends on what parts are needed so it could be less). If you have to have someone take the engine out, and rebuild it for you. It depends on what a shop charges per hour. It could cost more than what the tractor is worth depending on the condition of the whole tractor.

It's a pretty easy job being a 4 cyl. Yeah like PT said no cam bearings. Do the clutches while apart. diagnose the oil pressure making sure its above 20 lbs. hot before rebuild.Get a manual and follow procedure.

If you are careful, you can do the job yourself. If it were mine, I would have the crank reground by a machine shop. The other place you have to be careful is to make sure that the valve seats are properly ground when the new valves are put in. You can check by installing the valve including the valve spring and put a little gasoline on top of the valve to see if it leaks thru or stays there.

Another thing to do before having the crankshaft ground (or if you don't have it ground) have the machine shop check the crankshaft for cracks.

Crankshaft that came out of my Continental Z134 engine (and yes the engine still ran).

Do it yourself! Get an I&T book these a great little engines! You can get a kit her through YT! Take the rods to be checked for stretch at crank journal and wrist pin fit, and head to an engine machine shop they will do the valves and guides, they can check your crank for wear also it may or may not need turned. Use a hydraulic jack to push the liners out. Put some new rod and main bearings in and it will be your work!!!!!!!
