The 101 Jr. and 101 Sr. production ended in 1946 when the 30 and 44 models were introduced. The 44 with 4cyl overhead valve 260 Continental was the flagship rowcrop model. The 44-6 was considered the "economy model". They were often shipped with very few options. Prior to the 44, the 101 Sr. was the flagship rowcrop tractor in Massey's lineup. The 101 Jr. and Sr. tractors had 4 speed transmissions; the 30 and 44 series had 5 speed transmissions. The 101 Jr. used the Continental F124 flathead 4cyl to start with, updated to F140 and finally to F162 by the end of production (bore was the only difference). The 30 featured the F162 throughout production. Both the Jr. and the 30 have a front frame that is about 6" shorter than a Sr. or 44. The 101 Sr. used the F226 Continental flathead 6cyl, as did the 44-6. So to sum up: 30 replaced 101 Jr. 44 replaced 101 Sr. 44-6 was economy model, most similar to 101 Sr. Zack [Reply]  [No Email]

massey farmer 02-05-2013 06:22:21 174.252.49.167 Report to Moderator	Re: 101jr/sr replacements? in reply to Dave_Id, 02-05-2013 05:33:14   Well I'm no experet, proabably because I don't own the most comprehensive book by blah blah blaha, avalable at blah blah blah but if I had to guess I would say the 101jr really didn't replace anything at the time. They were made starting in the late 30's and ended in the early 40's. The massey harris 30 is proabably the closest replacement for it. They used the same blocks with the bigger bore of the four cyl flathead motors of the time offered in 20,21,22 101jr etc. As for the 101sr, it replaced the super, both six cyl. Motors but the supers were chrysler powered and seniors were continental powered. I'm not sure of a direct replacement but the 44-6 might be close because of the six cyl motor however I believe the regular four cyl. rowcrop is a better tractor. I'm not sure of options but my dad had a 101super on their farm but it was just a drawbar tractor. No bells and whistles like hydraulics. Weather or not that was standard or they could be ordered witth or without at the time I don't know. They sure were a good looking tractor though. So that's my guess to try and help you out until you buy your most comprehensive book by blah blah blah..... [Reply]  [No Email]
