| | Nope, no issue with your tractors. Just trying to demonstrate the limitations of the F226. It is not the be all, end all that you make it out to be. Whether you would like to admit it or not, it takes serious cash to get 100HP out of a F226 engine (at stock +20%). I know what it takes to get that out of a 4 cylinder and the flathead aspect of the F226 makes it more expen$ive. My point is that the money spent on the F226 to get 100HP would nearly "buy" 150HP on the H260... That is all. Regards, Goldsburg |

| About 25 years ago I was going to put a 244 in a Massey tractor to farm with, just cause I like the way they sound, found one in an Oliver combine, talked to Twin City Engine Re-builders at that time, they were a Continental Dealer, they told me to find a 226 and OH that cause the 244's all cracked between the valves. I still run that 226, bored 40 over, It's my hay baling tractor, don't have much power and nothing on the bottom end, but wound up on the baler it works good. I have a 44 puller with a warmed up 260, it will out pull that 226 about 3 to 1. I would make a new plan. |

| | F226 parts are widely available, just be carefule when ordering. It would be best to provide engine serial number. You can google Foley Engine. They have tons of flathead Continental parts. You can also try Jerry Moon at Montes Equipement in Chicago. Again, google is your friend. With regards to "performance" parts, everything is going to be custom unless you want to stop with 0.060" over pistons. You could bore much bigger, but it will also cost more money. You could install a performance cam grind (I can help). You could also look to stroke. I am sure that 3/4" would fit. The big question is: Is it all worth it? IMHO, that answer is NO. The best running F226 engine (at stock +20% over, mind you) is going to top out at around 75HP. With some mild massaging, you can get a near stock 44 to that for 1/4 of the money. If you really want to pull a flathead Continental and the pullers in your area aren't that knowledgeable (many aren't), then you should look to purchase a B427 flathead, M330, or M363 Continental to drop in. Perhaps Jerry at Montes could help you locate one. You will probably have about the same money in purchasing and installing the bigger flathead than working over a F226... Regards, Goldsburg |

| Goldsburg, will a B427 flathead, M330, or M363 Continental bolt right in? Or would there need to be some massaging to get one of these to bolt in? |
