If your talking a Massey Harris 30, first remove the grill and the tin cover over the steering box, if the shaft coming out of the box has a lot of play the bearings that hold that shaft can be adjusted. There is a lock nut towards the front of the box, loosen it and tighten the slug with the slot in it till you have the play out of the shaft. Have the front wheels jacked up so you can turn them. then tap the adjustment, the one above the jam nut with the capscrew through the slot to tighten or loosen the sector adjustment. Of course loosten the capscrew first, you should be able to get all the slack out of the steering gear, be sure to turn the wheel lock to lock cause of wear it might get sticky after you get off center. From the factory those sectors had 140 wt. gear oil in them, which is lone gone. Install a grease fitting in the plug hole and pump the sector full of grease, good luck. [Reply]   [No Email]
