do you have to get shorter pushrods when you mill the head on a MH277, or instead of milling the head, get those dommed pistons from extreme tractor parts. maybe shorter pushrods can be bought but where do i start looking? |

| I have 100 thou off of my head and I have found the 277 push rods are shorter than the 260s so you should be fine. Should you run into problems, you can also shim the stands that hold the rocker shaft to compensate for what you took off the head. |

| Thanks for all the advice, I think milling the head be the way I go. I have a budget I have to stay with. |

| If you install a custom ground cam, have the base circle lowered, and have the lifters resurfaced and shortened, that will give the same effect as shortening the push rods. You can take 1/8 to 3/16 off the head for compression and make that difference up with the cam and lifters. You do have to watch your rocker arm geometry. Another way is to make and install spacers under the rocker stands, one has an oil hole for the rockers. |

| Check out extreme tractor parts, they are advertising domed pistons for $600, mine cost over $1000. I would make sure it works with stock crank and rods. |

| The pistons they were selling for $600 were for a stroker motor, they wanted over $1000 for 4 inch or 4 1/16 inch. |

| | I think I've talked/E-mailed with a couple of you. I am the owner of Extreme Tractor Parts. To clarify, the MH44 pistons shown on my site are just a sample that I did for someone. They are just on the site to make you get all googli-eyed and slobbery. Nothing is set in stone. I can make whatever you want. I don't stock these pistons, they are made to order. If one of you can provide the compression height (that's from the center of the pin to the top of the piston) and pin dia of a stock piston, I can give you an accurate price. It doesn't matter to me if it's 3.875, 4.00 or 4.063 bore. Each forging has limitations for pin dia and overall height. To comment on the remainder of the discussion, the key is to get the compression up where you can make the most use of whatever fuel you intend to use. Regards, Ray 919-605-6040 |

| I would only take enough off the head to make it flat, then increase the compression with the pistons. |

| The pushrods will be fine, there are adjustment screws on the rocker arms. |
