I just bolted the clutch assembly back to the flywheel. I am not sure if I put the pto clutch on the correct way. The manual says install the clutch with the drive hub in. Is there a way to tell if it is correct with out taking it back a part? Also I have seen to adjust pto fingers anywhere from .090 to .045. Should I just start from .090 and if the clutch does not release, adjust some more? Sorry for all the questions. Sometimes it is better to leave things alone when you have had no sleep.

Did you install the circular spring dished away from the clutch cover ?

Thanks for the picture Sam. I do not have that tool but made the one from the I&T service manual I have. I read your post several times David and things are making more sense. The height does not have to be exact as long as all three fingers are the same if I am thinking correctly. You can make adjustments at the release bearing to compensate for any difference. The old pto disc had a sprung(convex) side and the new one does not so that is what had me confused about which way to install it. I hope to work on it some this evening so I am going to double check The pto disc installation. Thanks for the help.

Hello Michael,
Yes, you have the idea there. As a further couple of points;
You should have about 3/8" free travel on the clutch pedal where it strikes the underside of the footbar. The unloaded PTO shaft must stop within 1 1/2 to 1" of maximum pedal travel.
It is not an exact science due to wear in the linkage, plate wear/thickness etc. It may be necessary to decrease the PTO adjuster clearance by 010" if the plate does not stop of its own accord before the pedal reaches full travel.
A degree of tweaking here and there can be required to get it right.

Hello Michael,
Sam's photo shows the correct way to adjust the release fingers. The PTO adjusting screws should be set to 090" as a nominal figure. If the main plate has significant wear and is refitted the release fingers will protrude further. The further out they protrude the smaller will be the lift on the PTO pressure plate. Assuming that the fingers are well in and you have approximately the depth of the finger for the screws that is about correct. It is vital that the head setting above the plate hub is the same for the three even if the actual height is not to the gauge. Any difference can be adjusted at the release bearing.

As to the plates in the right way? Yes, some can be fitted incorrectly but most will only fit one way.

This is the proper bridging tool used to set the MF clutch.
The distance is set by placing the tool legs on the flywheel and
then setting the bolts to just touching the middle of the bridging
tool.
