My 275 has been like that for years-ever since dad had it from new. Whenever we had to split it we would get it fixed and then a short time later the brake would be out. I think what happens is the pto lever gets bumped into the half engaged position on then it takes the pto brake out. I just turn the tractor off when I need to hook something to the pto. (not a bad idea anyway safety-wise)
