Any opinions out there on whether a person should use non detergent motor oil in the older vintage gas engines? |

| I never have and never will use a non-detergent oil in any machine. It is a myth that using a detergent oil in one that has been run with a non=detergent oil will cause problem. Most tractor I buy I have no clue what oil was run in them and I have yet to ever run into any problems and I have had more then 100 tractors over the years |

| If the tractor you buy has used non-detergent for years, stick with it, as detergent oil will dislodge lots of crap and could block oil passages. On the other hand, if you clean out the inside of the valve cover, and clean the oil pan of all the sludge, then switch over to detergent oil. |
