How tight should I tighten the bolt on the arm on the power steering cylinder on a 275? I broke the arm and am replacing it with a new one. |

| Hi Jim, Are you talking about the two pinch bolts on the end of the cylinder or the bolt which holds the arm onto the vertical shaft? Your steering system might be slightly different if you have an Orbitrol hand pump. If its the pinch bolts about 35lb.ft is ok but you will have difficulty fitting a socket. If its the 5/8" unf bolt it does not have to be 'on the edge of stripping' tight. However if there is wear in the splines on the vertical shaft it is unlikely that you will be able to tighten it enough to make it solid. Having a worn shaft with a new arm will accelerate the wear on the new arm. DavidP, South Wales |
