Hello. I need to replace my lift cylinder & piston due to deep scratches in the surfaces of both parts. I"m wondering when I replace them should I purchase the regular type piston with the 3 steel rings or the other type I see with the single large rubber seal?? I would appreciate any feedback. Thank you. |

| Hi Brian, Two ways of looking at this. The cylinder/piston arrangement on the Masseys do have a tendency to "score" over a period of time, especially if the lift is used to it's full weight capacity. This leads to the wear you see in front of you. The trusty three steel ring set-up is more durable in the long run and able to better handle the early onset of small scores, but leakage can still be a problem, even when new. The neoprene seal arrangement is a more "positive" seal and will not leak at all when new, but the seal will fail rapidly when the first scores start to appear, as these tend to tear the seal. So if heavy work is the order of the day, I'd stick with the earlier set-up. My two Bobs worth, Evan. |
