Hi David, I am helping a friend to restore his 1965 MF175 and on sorting the steering parts out i noticed they are the same as a 65 and not a 165. I allwas thought the 100 series tractors was all introduced at the 1964 Smithfield show and we have a lot of 100 series tractors in preservation here in Nottinghamshire. I orgernise the feature tractors at the Newark tractor show every November and this year i am featuring John Deere tractors. 2012 i am featuring Massey Ferguson tractors and 2013 I am featuring Massey Harris, Wallace and Ferguson as together there would be to many for the showground. Hello MJ,
The DX or MF 100 Series were launched at the Smithfield Show on December 7th 1964. Whilst the steering principle for manual and power assisted is much the same there were some differences in the 165 and 175 set up. The 175 was something of a continuation of the 65 set-up with the high pedestal in front of the radiator and longer shaft etc. When the 178 was introduced in 1969 it
was changed to the more familiar 165 set-up. The difference is clearly seen by the fact that the 65 and 175 had the arm on the steering box at the 12 o'clock position and UK 165's, 178's through to 188's had it in the six o'clock position to lose the height. There are exceptions to this of course with American 165's upwards and German and French 165's upwards having the high drag-link position. To the best of my knowledge there were no Banner Lane 165's produced with the high drag link. There are other model designations that may have either as well.
Do you have a date for the 2012 event yet? That's one I would not like to miss!!! Would love to show my 165 but getting it there may be difficult. Our Glamorgan Iron Horse Vintage Society was invited to put forward a judge for one of the classes last year. Does that invitation basis still hold?

Hi ,
I went to the Newark event last year for the first time last year, it won't be the last! I thorougly enjoyed it apart from the fact that it was so crowded. I hope to go this year too.

Thanks for the info Dave, the Newark tractor show will be held on November 12th and 13th this year. I will ask the question about judging at the next meeting with Notts agricultral society who run the show. The Notts group of the NVTEC of wich I am chairman helps with the technical side of the event. If you do manage to get just ask in the features marque for Michael Hart and look for a bald headed old get. MJ
