Diesel in Motor oil

I have a 74 MF 30 Industrial with the instant reverse.Started leaking oil pretty bad,got looking discovered diesel in the oil.I don't have alot of knowlege in motor seems to be coming out of the front, down tord the bottom of the motor.Anybody have any ideas how diesel got there? It seems to be running and sounds just fine.Sorry for the bad discription but any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

It is most likely the lift pump. The diaphragm inside tears or gets holes and fuel gets pumped into the crankcase. Dis-assemble the lift pump and inspect. If bad you can get a new lift pump or you can get a repair kit.

It could also be the injection pump. The front seal fails and allows fuel into the crankcase. In this case you may be able to replace the front seal. If not you will have to take the IP to a fuel injection shop.

Thanks for the reply Jogl.Would that lift pump be on the right side as your sitting on the tractor?Would the average guy be able to change out these pumps? The injector pump, not sure where that might be.Sorry to have to ask these kinda questions and thanks again for your time.JB

Yes, the lift pump is on the right side, looking forward, and on ours, next to the fuel filter, 1 line in and 1 out to filter. The lines are a bit of a PITA, with their rubber bushings. (Assuming it's the Perkins 3 cylinder). It's kind of cramped with the loader frame and all for access, but just take your time. Injection pump is on the opposite side, front of the engine. Good luck. Tractor Data says that the Industrial 30 would have an AD4-203 in it. I am not familiar with that tractor or that engine but all of the Perkins that we have have the lift pump mounted on the right hand side and the IP on the left.

Unless the loader frame is in the way, as MK mentioned, changing / repairing the lift pump is pretty easy. Of course, when done you will need to bleed out the air.

Changing the injection pump is not hard, but is a bit more of a job. Must be very careful about timing, etc., and take serious measures to ensure cleanliness. You would want to do a little reading up on proper procedures before you dove into removing and re-installing the IP.

Check first the cold start aid (CAV Thermostart) in the inlet manifold. Then check the lift pump, then check the small bleed hole in the top of the Diesel filter for blockage, this can cause leaks through the injector pump front seal.

When out today and started her up and it was leaking around the lift pump.Got the nuts off and the fuel inlet line off but the outlet line doesn't seem to want to come off?I tried screwing it out but i dont think thats it?Don't want to pry on it without knowing thats the thing to do.Thanks again for all your time, very gratful.
