After installing a new clutch in my 165 I've noticed that I have less gear crashing when I shift into gear after letting the tractor idle for a few minutes. I used to have to wait a good long time to shift or the gears would grind. Is there something about a new clutch that would help this?

Well all good possibilities. I'm happy that there is less clashing. Grinding is such an unpleasant sound.

Hi Steven,
At least three possibilities here.
As has been mentioned, if the linings were 'sticky' the new plate will be released quicker with the dry linings. The new plate should have a 1 1/2 degree dishing to help clear quicker.
I seem to recall it was your tractor that had worn splines. This could cause the plate to 'stick' slightly.
Thirdly, if the main pressure plate is now withdrawing fully (may not have been before) it will release the plate quicker.

Cheers
DavidP

if you replaced the pilot bearing in center of the flywheel, might be the reason

Your old clutch was probably dragging: not fulling releasing when the pedal was pressed down. Maybe the new clutch is adjusted properly and the old clutch was not. Have you checked pedal free play per the manual? Tom

Probably not slipping. Your old one may have been slipping from being worn.

Old clutch "slipping" would not cause gear clashing; old clutch dragging would. Tom
