I just bought an MF 250. It checked out Fine when I test drove it, but when I got it home and tried to park it it got stuck in reverse. Any ideas what's going on or how to fix it?

I've seen that problem a lot on MF and Ford tractors. I don't know much about a 250, but my brother is bad about locking up the gears on our 135. I just take the plug out of the transmission beside the gear shift and move the large gear in the transmission that causes it to reverse to the neutral position with a tire tool or a long screwdriver.

That happens when you pick up on the shift lever. It will pull out of the shift fork. If thats the style that has an oil fill plug beside the shift lever, pop out the plug and stick a long screw driver in there and pop the fork back into neutral.

Hi,
WWTP has given the instruction to reset the selector position which should rectify the problem. It may be necessary to remove the filler plug extension if fitted. Check the gear lever for excess wear by turning it back and forth. Also check how much up and down is present. The elongated pivot hole in the gear lever will wear as will the pin that secures it.
I have replaced several gear levers and pins on 250's. If this excess movement is present it would be advisable to rectify it ASAP as it will happen again. The chances of a repeat can be reduced slightly by pushing down on the gearlever slightly at each change and making a positive movement from your selected gear into neutral, then across (if necessary) and then into next gear. Try to make it a 'square' change rather than a diagonal one.
