Sir, I am currently working on a 35 diesel with an oil leak from the input shaft/pto shaft gasket. I ma having the devil"s own time removing the last snap ring on the pto shaft which allows the gear to drop enabling me to remove the input shafts. Is there a special tool for this job? Heavy duty snapring pliers?
Thanks muchly,
dg

Hello dg,
You have moved me. I'm in 'OLD' South Wales in the UK not New South Wales in Australia. Could do with their weather at the moment though!!!!
OK, the PTO shaft should be retained by an external circlip. Are the eyes broken on yours or has some other type been fitted? If the eyes are missing then it will require something like a very small jewellers screwdriver to get under one leg and prise it out of the groove. It is of course necessary for the constant mesh gear to drop. The picture shows the gear in place with the input housing removed. This is not the 6-speed transmission bet the bearing arrangement etc is the same.

David, sorry about the move. I did have you in a very nice place tho. Too bad you had to move back so soon. It appears to be the same snap ring. It"s a very stiff clip and has resisted 3 hrs of removal. It still has the eyes on the ends so I guess its a matter of continueing the battle with it. Thank you for your help again.

Hello,
Provided the eyes are in good condition and you have the correct size circlip pliers all you can do is persevere until it comes off. If you are able to open it a little, oush some wire or similar under it and perhaps you can prize it onto the full diameter.
Cheers

It is cool (about 25C) and wet over much of New South Wales at present. A great change as we have been in drought for many years. Need a lot more rain yet to break the drought but it is a start.

Usually warm (about 35C) and dry at this time of year.

Likewise Happy New Year David. I learn a lot from your posts.

Now if we could only average out the climate here and in the UK we would have something quite nice!
