This past weekend there was a very large antique tractor auction in Leola. PA.. I happened out there on Friday and spotted a MF 97 tractor. All I could say was WOW!! It had a big 6 cylinder diesel for power that looked like a 220 Cummins. The machine sold on Saturday and I could n't be there. First off: Did anyone attend the sale and see what this tractor sold for? I've only see one other MF 97, and that was in a collectors field up in Canada. What's the story on these big brutes? Are they rare? Was it a good machine and did farmers like them? Any info would be gladly appreciated. If only I had a place to keep it!!

The 97 was a Minneapolis G705 with different hood and grill. The 4x4 version was a G706. The engine was a 504 MM with about 100 hp. Minnie also sold Massey their GB (I think) that Massey called a 95, and Minnie Gvi, which Massey called a 95 Super. There was a 97 at the Taylorville, IL auction yesterday with a cab, straight original and ran good, brought $4000. I wanted it, but went a bit too high for me. There was also a 4x4 version there, I think it went for $6250. Not exactly a handy tractor, but they sure look good.

I have a 97 and just love it. Can't do a darn thing with it because it is too big, no pto or 3-point. It is fun at the tractor pulls though but I rarely do well with it. I'm sure there is a way to "turn it up" which may solve the tractor power issue but I also assume the operator has something to do with the poor pulling performance.
