Replace MF 165 tach cable seal

My 165 was leaking oil out of the tach cable plate weep hole. I got the seal and gasket from dealer and seated the seal in the plate (spring side toward front of engine) but when I go to install the plate the seal makes contact about 3/16" before the plate is flush against the engine. Is it correct to have to tighten the plate to force the seal to seat correctly?

Hello,
Absolutely not! Assume that you have an AD4.203 engine (exhaust on left) in your tractor.
The part number for the seal is 30854/636762
These numbers should be shown on the bag or box of your new seal. The seal is fitted correctly with the garter spring towards the front. Does it appear to be the same as the old seal? If so, it may be necessary to smear some grease around the lip of the new seal and fit it with a gentle twisting motion. This should ensure that the seal does not fold as its being fitted.
