Dave, I'm getting things sorted out, but I have a question, if you can remember. The bolt for the radius rods, from the front axle, was , from the parts book, originally a 3/4 shank, then a 5/8 thread. The 5/8 apparently threaded into the end of the radius rods. Anyway, my threads are gone, and the machine shop I visited today said to just stick a 5/8 bolt in there, and use a nylock nut. The boss for the 3/4 shank now measures 5/8. I think someone must have put a bushing in, but I'm not sure. Anyway, I was wondering if you remember how you did yours.
Thanks,
Stan

Hello,
I assume that you are referring to a 35 or 135 with a swept axle. The only bolts ever fitted were 5/8". Major wear can take place and the threads can cut into the bottom jaw of the rod giving the appearance that they are threaded. Check the condition of the axle pivot bush and pin. If you have major wear in either of these the axle geometry will be wrong. This can cause excessive tyre wear and make the steering heavy.
There is only ONE bush fitted to the swept axle.
If the bush has worn through a new one can be welded in usually.
Having a good bush and pin will reduce the load on the radius rod bolts.

Thanks David, but I should have mentioned that it's a Massey Pony. Dave_Id restored one a few years ago, and I wondered if he had the same problem. ...Stan

I don't recall mine being a problem, but you can purchase 'shoulder bolts' at McMaster Carr, or Fastenal. Some Tool & Die Makers call them 'stripper bolts'. They aren't that expensive to replace.
