4020 Electrical issue

Tried starting our 4020 the other day, it turned over slow a time or two and then would just click. Shortly after that even the 'click went away'. Tractor is still original 24 volt wiring. Charged the batteries and checked the connections at the batteries and they seem fine. Solenoid gets 24 volts when starter button is pushed. Thinking maybe the solenoid is bad. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

How are you measuring the voltage at the solenoid when the starter button is being pressed, the voltage across the two small terminals is what needs to be measured as this is an isolated base solenoid. Should read 24 Volts (nominal) with the terminal neatest the engine block being (+). Is that how you are checking it? BE SURE it's in Park in case it cranks unexpectedly while you are working on it!

Sounds to me as if batteries need to be "load tested" with a battery tester. While attempting to start engine either destroke frt hyd pump with destroking screw(if present) OR rapidly move steering wheel from side to side while engaging starter

The diagnosis is pretty straight forward. Load test the batteries for voltage, check the connections thoroughly, fully charge good batteries, check voltage at the starter with load. If there's still a problem then have the starter tested.

As it turns out, the starter is fried, looks like the brushes' support arms broke off and did a little welding on the armature. The back plate on the starter is broken also.

Any suggestions on where to get a replacement starter? Guessing this one is probably beyond a rebuild.
