4020 Fuel Injector Stuck??

Hello. I have a 4020 that I'm thinking the injectors may be stuck in the head. Tractor hasn't been started for a very long time. I'm working on getting it cranked up and running again. So I've started with the fuel system. Pretty much all the rubber boots are so brittle they all basically crumbled into pieces. So the return lines are disconnected. All supply lines broke loose and are disconnected. The hold down bolt and hold down have been removed but none of the Injectors will budge. They won't move up or down or even rotate in the head any at all. Am I missing something as far as removing the Injectors or am I lucky enough to have all 6 injectors stuck? If so any advice on how to get them out?
Thanks,
Scotty

Apply your favorite penetrating oil other than "WD-40". Acetone & auto trans oil mixed together is an alternative to penetrating oil. Wait for oil to penetrate between inj & cyl head. Then attempt to turn injector side to side in cyl head bore. Sometimes a slide hammer is utilized to aid in removing injector. Worst scenario cyl head would require removal from engine block & injector driven out on tip end.

I would not even remove the injectors until you know you have to. First thing to do is make sure the injection pump is pumping fuel. With todays newer poor quality fuel it is very common to find pumps gummed up with stuck plungers and metering valves. This can even happen on tractors parked in the fall and not used untill spring. Verify the pump is working and replace the fuel injector rubbers and see what you have. It might just run fine. I did a head gasket on a 4020 recently where even with a puller we could not get two injectors and ended up prying them out and bending both. Tom

The usual cause of any pencil injector stuck in the head bore is the TOP compression seal leaked, which will cause the lower carbon dam seal to blow too. When the carbon dam seal fails, diesel carbon/soot WILL pack the injector tight in the bore. There are several different thickness top compression seals used on pencil injectors, and if the wrong size is used that will cause problems. Also look closely at the hold down spring assembly, if they are broken/damaged then injector won't be held down tight for the compression seal to work. Injectors that will not turn in the head USUALLY need driven out from below after head is off.

Defiantly will try soaking in some good penetrating oil and try working them back and forth to try to get them moving and hopefully work them out. Where or how is
the best way to connect the slide hammer to the injector?
Thanks

I totally agree. But I'd like to get the injectors out and put some oil and penetrating oil down in the cylinders. The tractor sat up for a long time with a coffee can as a rain cap and I believe more than just the injectors are stuck. I've tried to rotate engine and it doesn't seem like it wants to move. So before I start to rare on it to hard trying to make it rotate I'd like to get some type of oil or penetrating oil in the dry cylinders so if the engine does start to turn it doesn't start out turning dry.
Thanks

Sure hope don't have to pull head but if that's what has to be done then that's what I'll do. Defiantly will be sure to check injector size for correct fit.
Thanks
