4020 CBC pump leak

Hello all. I've got a 70 4020 with the little CBC pump, and I'm working on fixing leaks. I'm seeing what looks like a pretty healthy leak at the base where the pump bolts up to the block. What do you suppose is failing, and are there parts available to fix it? Thanks.

A simple very expensive seal kit is still available to dry up those pumps. I also think a shut off solenoid is all that is left for
hard parts to buy. I reseal a few each year. Al

As Al said, seal kit is available but expensive. I have one apart now that came in for leaks too..

I think the 95 bucks solenoid is just a generic 15 bucks Bosch solenoid machined down and retread. I am modifying a Bosch one now for a customer and will let you know how it turns out.

I've had owners say PHOOEY on the solenoid, pull out the spring and plunger and back out the low idle screw to shut engine off with the throttle..

The seal kit that you reference - is that something I can find in the JD parts catalog, or is it aftermarket? And is this a job that a reasonably skilled home
mechanic can take on, or does it require the expertise of a real pump mechanic?

Is the leak engine OIL, or is it FUEL? If oil it's probably the sealing O ring in the base groove leaking, or the base may be cracked. If fuel there are several places leak could be, or again, a cracked base. That's NOT a pump one should attempt to repair, as there's NO parts available, only used, and those are getting scarce. The seal kit alone takes most of two hundred bucks..

is there a write up on this anywhere? I bought a seal kit from standadyne for my CBC pump on my 500A TLB. so far I have replaced the top throttle seals, the top cap/cup seal, the fuel line seals, and the shutoff seal. there are more to change, as it still weeps fuel from various places, and I'd rather just do them all at once if it doesn't look to hard to do. the engine starts and runs great so I don't want to mess up a good thing just to save a few drops of fuel everywhere i park it.
