4020 Electrical ?

Has anyone had issues getting a good ground on a 4020? This is a 1967 gas. It is a 12 volt system with two 12 volt batteries. Each battery has a hot cable direct to the starter and each battery is grounded to the frame. My batteries were junk - so I just put 2 new ones in. Still nothing. I tried to jump across the solenoid. There was a weak spark and it did not turn over. I took battery cables off and cleaned the connections. I am going to replace 2 of the 4 cables. Hopefully that will help? If not, I have heard of taking off the starter and cleaning to make sure it is grounded to the frame. Any other ideas? I am about ready to dig a hole and push this thing in!!!! Thank you.

While replacing cables did you get good heavy ones? To many people go to an auto parts store and get way to light of cables for their tractors. If two were bad replace all of them. Rather than a braided ground cable I use a regular one and usually attach to one of the bolts that hold the battery box bracket. Tom

Just a thought, you might want to check starter case to battery negative and starter terminal voltage to battery 12 v while cranking. The first should stay at near zero and the second should not drop below some number I forget, I think 10 volts. Maybe someone can correct me if I am off.

Ps, if these voltages are good then it may be your starter.

. Seen your “new” post but we will attempt to keep the topic together .
As previously stated there is a cable or connection that looks good but it has a high resistance connection . Or the solenoid/starter has problems .
Need to use the voltage function on a multi meter and find out where the VD is .
